I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. My job is to choose what kind of day I'm going to have.

TODAY I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is being watered for free.

TODAY I can feel sad that I don't have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

TODAY I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.

TODAY I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

TODAY I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

TODAY I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout with joy because God has given me the power to create wealth.

TODAY I can murmur because I have to do housework, or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body, and soul.

TODAY stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping. What today will be like is up to me. I get to chose what kind of day I will have!!

"Why are you crying?" he asked his mom.

"Because I'm a mother," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said.

His mom just hugged him and said, "You never will."

Later the little boy asked his father why Mother seemed to cry for no reason. "All mothers cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man still wondering why mothers cry. So he finally put a call into God and when God got on the phone the man said, "God, why do mothers cry so easily?"

God said, "You see son, when I made mothers they had to be special. I made their shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort. I gave them an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from their children. I gave them a hardiness that allows to keep them going when everyone else gives up, and to take care of their families through sickness and fatigue without complaining. I gave them the sensitivity to love their children under all circumstances, even when their child has hurt them very badly. This same sensitivity helps them share a teenager's anxieties and fears.

I gave them a tear to shed. It's theirs exclusively to use whenever it is needed. It's their only weakness. It's a tear for mankind."

HELLO GOD

Hello God, I called tonight

To talk a little while...

I need a friend who'll listen

To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can't quite make it

Through a day on just my own...

I need your love to guide me,

So I'll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep,

My family safe and sound.

Come and fill their lives with confidence

For whatever fate they're bound.

Give me faith, Dear God, to face

Each hour throughout the day,

And not to worry over things

I can't change in any way.

I thank you God, for being home

And listening to my call.

For giving me such good advice

When I stumble and fall.

Your number, God, is the only one,

That answers every time.

I never get a busy signal,

Never had to pay a dime.

So thank you God for listening

To my troubles and my sorrow.

Good night, God, I love you, Too,

And I'll call again tomorrow!
